Wingdings, Zapf Dingbats (Wingdings 2, Zapf Dingbats 2)ġ Georgia and Trebuchet MS are bundled with Windows 2000/XP and they are also included in the IE font pack (and bundled with other MS applications), so they are quite common in Windows 98 systems.Ģ Symbolic fonts are only displayed in Internet Explorer, in other browsers a font substitute is used instead (although the Symbol font does work in Opera and the Webdings works in Safari).ģ Book Antiqua is almost exactly the same font that Palatino Linotype, Palatino Linotype is included in Windows 2000/XP while Book Antiqua was bundled with Windows 98.Ĥ These fonts are not TrueType fonts but bitmap fonts, so they won't look well when using some font sizes (they are designed for 8, 10, 12, 14, 18 and 24 point sizes at 96 DPI).ĥ These fonts work in Safari but only when using the normal font style, and not with bold or italic styles. If you are new to web design, maybe you are thinking: 'Why I have to limit to that small set of fonts? I have a large collection of nice fonts in my computer'. This is the reference I use when making web pages and I expect you will find it useful too.

Here you can find the list with the standard set of fonts common to all versions of Windows and their Mac substitutes, referred sometimes as 'browser safe fonts'. First, realize what fonts the Linux crowd doesn’t have that Windows or Mac users will: Sans-serif fonts: Charcoal, Helvetica, Geneva, Lucida Grande, Lucida Sans Unicode, MS Sans Serif, and Tahoma Serif fonts: Book Antiqua, New York, and Times Monospace font: Lucida Console Fantasy fonts: Symbol. I am not going to mention Windows 98/95 or Mac OS 8/9 as these are legacy systems and the number of users using them for web is shrinking on a daily basis. The Windows fonts are included with Windows XP and later, and the Mac fonts are included with Mac OS X. The table below lists web-safe fonts that are common for both Windows and Macintosh. To list all font faces, run: $ fc-list Use the more command as pager or grep command/egrep command to search for fonts. List all available fonts on Linux using the CLI. Put the fonts into the /.fonts folder in your home directory to use them. The fonts for Macintosh OSX work perfectly on Linux. The files I wanted are in the Library folder, after everything is extracted.
